I previously posted a short piece about Finland's recent tourist campaign extolling one reason to visit Finland: the experience of silence.
Gordon Hempton is an American recordist of nature sounds. He is what is called an acoustic ecologist.
This 10-minute trailer to his film Being Hear "highlights his quest to pursue silence, and the importance of listening."
The action of listening takes place in the Olympic Peninsula, "the largest coniferous forest and only rain forest in the continental United States," a much different ecosystem than those Finland featured.
Ah, the sounds of silence.
