Today's Google Doodle celebrates the life of yet another scientist I'd never heard about: Herbert Kleber (Juine 19, 1934 - October 5, 2016).

Psychiatrist Herbert Kleber turned addiction on its head. In the CNN report linked above, Kleber, while working in a "government-run prison...weren't working." He found that "up to 90% of them relapsed shortly after their release." He started treating "addiction like a medical condition and treated it as such. He was one of the first to treat drug addiction with drugs like methadone...."

He had a notable career and served in government, appointed by President G.H.W. Bush and also at Columbia University where he and "his late wife Miriam Fishmann, directed the National Policy Center for Addiction and Substance Abuse."
