The Academy of American Poets has announced the winner of this year's National Poetry Month Poster Contest for Students. She is Samantha Aikman, a tenth grader from Vermont.

Aikman's artwork will be the official April 2020 National Poetry Month poster.You may find out more about the contest, see her artwork and that of other finalists, read their statements, and sign up to receive a free copy here. The Academy distributes 100,000 copies and the request list fills quickly. Some years I've gotten a poster and some years I haven't.

Today's poem is by Naomi Shihab Nye.  Naomi Shihab Nye is the "Poetry Foundation’s Young People’s Poet Laureate, serving from 2019 to 2021.
