The Google Doodle for November 20, honors Benoit Mandelbrot, the father of fractal geometry. The Independent includes the doodle--cleverly animated on one side--and notes about Mandelbrot's career.

"The term fractal geometry," according to the article was"coined in 1975 (and) describes the mathematical phenomena of irregular yet infinitely repeating shapes found throughout nature." Think snowflakes, ocean waves, DNA, crystals, pineapples, broccoli, cauliflower.
