As usual the National Academies of Sciences - Engineering - Medicine has published its annotated State of the Union address by the president. The NAS always manages to post these annotations the day following the SOU. The annotations are based on NAS policy studies and reports.
It shows the myriad ways science and society are related. The SOU is followed by the annotations to the relevant parts of the speech.

To be elected to membership in the academy is a notable achievement -- "one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive."
