Forest ecologist Peter Reich holds two academic positions, one at the University of Minnesota and one at the University of Michigan.

MPR meteorologist Paul Huttner interviewed him recently for his program, Climate Cast.

 

It is a short listen (4 m 26 s) but the topic is of considerable importance because it is about the future of northern forests globally and and also in northern Minnesota. 

In Minnesota, the concern is about spruce and fir--BWCA icons.. Warming temperatures and less precipitation are having an impact on these beloved northern Minnesota forests, slowing growth and influencing survival rates.
